A Clinical Analysis of Postoperative adhesive intestinal Obstruction

Abstract
This clinical report is based on review of record of 116 patients with postoperative adhesive intestinal obstruction who were managed conservatively and surgically at the Department of surgery of Incheon Christian Hospital during 5 years from
january.
1988 to december, 1992.
@ES The results of study were as follows:
@EN 1) The most prevalent age group was 5th decade in 38 cases(32.85) and male to female ratio was 1.9:1.
2) The previous operations of postoperative adhesive intestinal obstruction were appendectomy(31.0%), operations for peritonitis(23.3%), gynecologic operations(13.8), gastric operation(8.6%)
3) The duration between previous operations and postoperative adhesive intestinal obstruction was most frequent between one month and one year(25.8%).
4) 55(47.4%) of 116 patients were admitted under 24 hours after onset of symptoms.
5) The chief complaints an admission were abdominal pain(96.5%), vomiting(75.9%), abdominal distension(69.0%), failure to flatus(66.4%).
6) No patients in the abscence of all the classic findings had intestinal strangulation.
7) The operative procedure were performed in 13 cases with emergency and elective 20 cases and conservative management in 83 cases. In partial small bowel obstruction, operation is considered among patients with clinical signs of deterioration
after 48
hours of conservative treatment.
8) The postoperative complication were observed in 7 cases and the most common complication was wound infection(12.1%).
